Getting started
How do I start working with Authoritax?
Complete the new client inquiry form or schedule a 15-minute intro call. Briefly describe the help you need. If the work is a good fit, Authoritax will explain the scope, engagement, and secure portal steps.
Does submitting an inquiry make me a client?
No. An inquiry or introductory call does not create a professional engagement. Services begin only after Authoritax accepts the work and both parties complete the required written engagement.
Who does Authoritax help?
Authoritax works with individuals, families, retirees, investors, contractors, rental property owners, and small business owners. Each matter is reviewed for fit before an engagement is offered.
Tax preparation and security
Can I complete my tax return online?
Yes. Authoritax uses a secure online client portal for document uploads, organizers, follow-up questions, approvals, and electronic signatures when available.
Should I email tax documents?
No. Sensitive tax documents should be uploaded through the secure client portal rather than ordinary email. Existing clients can open the client portal here.
Does Authoritax prepare small business returns?
Yes. Authoritax works with contractors, Schedule C businesses, LLC owners, and S corporations. The required records and engagement depend on the entity, bookkeeping, payroll, and filing requirements involved.
What documents should I provide?
Your list depends on the return. Common items include prior returns, W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, brokerage forms, retirement forms, estimated payments, business or rental records, and documents related to major life changes. Upload only the documents relevant to your engagement.
Back taxes and notices
Can Authoritax prepare several unfiled years?
Yes. Authoritax can prepare multiple prior-year federal and state income tax returns. You may ask about several years or begin with one selected year under the agreed scope. See the Back Taxes page.
What if I do not have all my old documents?
Begin with what you have and identify the years involved. Authoritax can determine what additional information is needed. Work required to obtain or reconstruct missing information will be discussed separately.
Can Authoritax help with an IRS or state notice?
Authoritax can review certain IRS or state notices and help identify what the agency is requesting. Notice review, audit representation, collections work, penalty relief, and tax-debt resolution are separate from ordinary return preparation and require their own review and written scope.
Tax planning and related services
What is tax planning?
Tax planning uses current information and stated assumptions to estimate tax exposure, compare available choices, and identify possible action steps before a transaction or deadline. Learn more on the Tax Planning page.
Is tax-return preparation included with tax planning?
Not automatically. Tax planning and return preparation are separate services. The written engagement identifies which services and deliverables are included.
Do I have to use Longhouse Wealth Management?
No. Authoritax and Longhouse Wealth Management provide separate services under separate agreements. You may use another investment adviser or implement appropriate tax-planning action items yourself.
Does a projection guarantee my final tax result?
No. A projection depends on the information, assumptions, and tax law available when it is prepared. Actual results can change because of later income, transactions, incomplete information, or changes in law.
